Taiwanese Pop Sensation Announced as Ambassador for WCG Taiwan
Teen idol partners with Shuttle to help promote cyber gaming championships to mainstream audiences
In a gala event held yesterday, David Yu, president of Shuttle Inc - the leading designer and manufacturer of small form factor (SFF) computers and accessories - crowned number one pop singer Cyndi as the official ambassador for the World Cyber Games (WCG) in Taiwan.
"Having Cyndi on board to promote WCG Taiwan is very exciting," said David Yu during a press conference after the event, "With her help, we are hoping to raise the profile of cyber gaming in Taiwan and S.E. Asia to a much wider audience. Not just 'elite' gamers, but in the mainstream too."
During the ceremony, Cyndi was presented with one of the special edition XPC systems designed by Shuttle and a number of industry partners for use in the WCG Taiwan championships. After posing for publicity shots with the XPC, Cyndi delighted the crowds with an impromptu performance of some of her well-know hits.
As ambassador Cyndi will be attending several promotional events around Taiwan to encourage gamers to sign up for the 3 local play-offs scheduled in July. Winners form each of these will go on to compete in the national championships, to be held in Taipei 27-28 August, for the chance to play against top gamers from around the globe in the World Cyber Games Final later this year.
Online registration for WCG Taiwan participation runs until 30 June.
