Hexus.net: SB61G2V3: Rating 8 out of 10 Stars

Hexus

22. May 2004

Shuttle's never-ending march towards total world domination in the SFF arena continues unabated. (...) Recent XPC revisions have made the range very simple to work with, plentiful in power options and clean in terms of internal cable routing. The SB61G2 v3.0 is no exception. (...)
The CD-ROM of drivers and software is well engineered. Having loaded your operating system, pop the CD in your installed CD drive and click the Install Mainboard Software button. The CD, having identified your Shuttle model, then knows exactly what drivers you need installing for whatever operating system you happen to be running. You're offered the choice of taking advantage of that facility, or you can proceed manually and install drivers at your will. (...)

Conclusion:

(...) The beauty of Shuttle's approach, the Shuttle for all occasions mantra, means that there's something for everyone. (...) But, the clean looks and design, good interior organisation and strong features help make up for it. (...) It's a tidy, polished implementation of a well trodden concept, (...). But nobody else does a Pentium 4 SFF box quite like Shuttle, with the SB61G2 v3.0 one of the best. (...) Recommended if a P4 XPC is what you're after and you don't fancy splashing out on the RefleXion or an SB75. So recommended infact that I've just bought one myself.

HardwareHell: Rating 9.0, HardwareHell Gold Award

(...) Many are designed specifically to look nice in a living room for use as a home-theater add-on. At the forefront of this movement is Shuttle. There are other companies involved in the SFF business as well, but none seem to be as prolific as Shuttle. (...) With over 16 years of experience with PC’s, I have to hand it to Shuttle; they made something that I think outshines the competition. Taking a peek at the front of the case reveals well placed reset and power buttons, with the hard drive and power LED’s to the left of them. (...) Too many weirdly placed screws were needed to keep panels on, rodents out, etc. Shuttle helped out a lot in this system by using a total of 6 thumb screws to hold the chassis and power supply together. Thank you, Shuttle. (...) The CPU installation went without a hitch (...). Due to the remarkable Shuttle engineering, the entire process is made very easy. (...)

Conclusion:

To be honest, I really enjoyed working with this sexy little box. I’m a big fan of simplicity, and the Shuttle SB61G2 provides a worthwhile PC experience for the power users. Its elegant looks and powerful features make this PC well worth the money. I was impressed with how much could be crammed into such a small space, and I think we’re now looking at quite a trend in computing because of that. I think that SFF systems will become a major attraction to more and more home users due to its less imposing looks and excellent performance. If you’re looking for a good, basic building block for a SFF system for LAN partying, home usage, or your grandmother, this is a good choice. I recommend this for almost anyone.

Final Score: 9.0

PC Magazin: Mini-PC Testsieger: "Terra Filia MC 3000" mit SB61G2

PC Magazin
www.pc-magazin.de/...
Ausgabe 6/2004

Preis/Leistung: Gut

Chip: Günstige Basisversion unseres Testsiegers

Chip Deutschland

Fazit SB61G2:

Günstige Basisversion unseres Testsiegers (...).

Preis/Leistung: sehr gut

Fazit gesamt:

XtremPC: "No. 1 in top XtremPC"

XtremPC Magazine Romania
issue Oct. 2003

In the battle with space, dimension is important" the reviewer made an introduction presenting what is a Mini PC (and their benefits) not forgetting that Shuttle was the first company who "adventure" to realize the first Mini PC.

SB61G2 - "No. 1 in top XtremPC"
Conclusion: A Mini PC who sucesfully beat any desktop pc and a very good solution for lan-party.

Shuttle SB51G can be used as an office computer, but with a performant video card and a powerful
processor you can have a sistem for any 3D application.

SN41G2 - the only Mini PC from test for AMD platform.
Conclusion: A very good solution with many options. The users which prefer AMD processors will be delighted by the speed
and better equipment of Shuttle SN41G miniPC.

Maximum PC USA: Gear of the Year 2003 award

Maximum PC Magazine USA
issue December 2003, page 81
"We'll be the first to admit that we're Shuttle sluts, but that's because the comany that created the small formfactor bare-bones PC continues to prove that experience counts. Shuttle's XPC machines have been - and still are - the best in their class. (...) The enclosures themselves are wonderfully fabricated, and wrenching on the Shuttle is about as good as it gets in a cramped space. (...)"

For the second year in a row, Shuttle XPC won "Gear of the Year" in Maximum PC magazine. Last year, SS51G won the award, this year SB61G2 wins it. Maximum PC is the largest magazine in the US that focuses on components (PC Magazine, PC World, CNET Shopper focus on full systems). About 1.2 million people read Maximum PC per month.

AMD3D: Overall rating: 98%

AMD3D
www.cpu3d.com/...
19. November 2003
Conclusion:

Don’t underestimate the Shuttle SB61G2, it may be small in size but it is certainly not short on performance. (...)  this package can satisfy the power users. Throw in an ATI 9800Pro and you have yourself a little speed demon that would embarrass many systems at a local LAN meeting. It’s no wonder that a number of major box builders are using Shuttle systems in their line-up. At the moment small is chic. (...) The ICE cooling system does a really good job. When running a lower spec CPU the only time you will hear the ICE fan kick in is on boot up. (...) With its stylish looks and a number of different face plates available the XPC will not detract from the rest of your entertainment system. (...) the Shuttle XPC SB61G2 is a great product. (...)  your experiences with the XPC will be happy ones.

PC Magazine Greece: Editors Choice Award

PC Magazine Greece

SB61G2 won Editors Choice Award in a "deathmatch comparison"

Maximum PC USA: Editor's Kick Ass Award

Maximum PC Magazine USA
issue October 2003, page 81
Editor of Maximum PC love Shuttle's offering...

The bare-bones pioneer continues to embarrass its competitors by making the game look easy. Dig it: The SB61G2 has a clean look, great documentation, a truly roomy interior, and strong performance numbers. What more could someone ask for? (...) Running the Shuttle was smooth as silk. Benchmark figures were strong across the board, as well, showing the strength of Intel's Springdale chipset. Thus was born a new love affair between Maximum PC and a Shuttle offering. (...) With stylish simplicity, Shuttle continues to dominate the barebones realm.

Hard 'n' Soft Russia: Best-Performance-Award

Hardware Extreme: Exzellentes Outfit, gute Qualität und dabei klein!

Hardware Extreme
www.hwextreme.com/...
28. Aug. 2003
Fazit: (Deutsch)

Conclusion: (English)
It is about time that we start looking towards smaller form factor than the big bulky ATX form factor. Besides making the ATX form factor PC look like an elephant in the technology world, Shuttle has shown that an SFF PC can do just as well as their bigger counterparts. (...)
Finally, do not be fooled by the SB61G2's small size, as it is certainly not small in features and performance.
