Athlon Notes:
  • For 3.3V SRAMs, the voltage upper limit is 4.0V. For 2.5V SRAMs, the upper limit is 3.0V.
  • The old Voltage Regulation App Note for Athlon Classic chips (early K7) indicated that motherboards should be designed with a maximum 35A current draw in mind to prepare for a "next generation of processors from AMD". The App Note went on to give examples of a theoretical chip running at 1.6V and drawing 30 amps as well as one at the design max of 35 amps.
  • Power numbers (typical and max wattage) include the 512KB L2 cache running at max case current conditions.
  • The K7 is made on a 0.25µ process; the K75 is made on a 0.18µ process.
  • The Core Voltage Upper Limit on the Athlon has been increased from 1.9V (0.3v over nominal) to 2.1V (0.5v over nominal) for both the K7 (model 1) and K75 (model 2) chips.
  • Note that the wattage and amperage numbers for all model 2 (K75) Athlons has been revised. Both dropped.
  • With the addition of the 1.2GHz Athlon and 800MHz Duron chips, voltage, wattage, and amperage numbers for the PGA Athlon and Duron have changed (they're now higher). I'm not sure if this is due to a core stepping change or is just a re-evaluation of the chip's electricals by AMD. Both old and new chip specs are still listed.
  • Athlons running on a 133MHz bus but at the same core speed as their 100MHz counterparts have the same thermal specifications.
  • The 550MHz Duron and 650MHz Thunderbird chips do not exist. Apparently a few 700MHz Thunderbirds escaped from AMD, but the chip was never officially launched.
  • Max Case Temp for the PGA Athlons and Durons is really Max Die Temp.
  • For the Palomino Athlons and Morgan Durons the Maximum Power Dissipation is "maximum sustained power dissipated while executing publicly-available software or instruction sequences under normal system operation at nominal VCC_CORE. Thermal solutions must monitor the processor temperature to prevent the processor from exceeding its maximum die temperature."
