The Register: "Fulfills its intended purpose as a DVR superbly"

"Shuttle has built a media center PC that deserves a place in any well-heeled living room," cites the British hardware web site "The Register" about the lastest media centre innovation from Shuttle. The complete Shuttle XPC mini X 200 scored 80 per cent for being "sleek, attractive, smart, stylish and small" and "a fine media centre system."

A few after the Shuttle XPC mini X 100HA had paid a visit to the labs, The Register now checked if its black twin the Shuttle XPC mini X 200 sticks to what it promises: to be a complete home entertainment PC. Like its brother, the Shuttle XPC mini X 200 is "absolutely tiny" and incorporates notebook technologies that let it run power efficient with Intel Core 2 Duo/Core Duo processors and "the X200M is incredibly cool and quiet even when it's working hard," state the editors.

Conclusion: "The changes that Shuttle has made to the X200M over the machine's predecessor are subtle, yet significant. This is a specialised media centre PC that is hopeless for games, but fulfills its intended purpose as a DVR superbly, and it looks absolutely lovely."

With regards to the market it is aimed at, "Shuttle has given you everything that you need to watch TV and movies, and there's certainly plenty of room on that 300GB hard drive for recording as many TV shows as you may fancy," explains The Register.

Apart from its "absolutely lovely looks" and a standard 3.5'' hard disk, the test sample configuration of the Shuttle XPC mini X 200 packs an Intel Core Duo processor at 1.6 GHz, 1GB of memory, Intel i945GM chipset with GMA950 graphics core, a hybrid TV tuner 1.6 GHz, "802.11b/g wireless module and a couple of monitor adaptors." The editors "were very glad to see that the X200M has gained a pair of PS/2 ports" which can be found on the rear side of the case.

Performance-wise, the "Intel graphics handled TV and movie playback with aplomb," writes The Register.
