Second round for LAN-Giant - Dreamhack-Winter 2007
What makes you think of Sweden? Ikea, vast spaces or perhaps Abba? But whatever your memory-jog for Sweden may be, Dreamhack should still be a familiar term to you as since the brilliant DH Summer 2007 gaming fans are now in a frenzy as they await the event of the winter. The Mega-Event which takes place from 29 November to 2 December in the Swedish town of Jönköping, welcomes thousands of pilgrims into the Elmia Exhibition Centre twice a year and Shuttle is in the heart of it all with its XPCs...
Dreamhack which describes itself as the biggest LAN-Party in the world has been held annually since 1994 and twice yearly since 2002. The original LAN and Demo party has now become more than just that. Through a large-scale supporting program with shows and event interludes and many other attractions, Dreamhack is not only an experience for gaming fans. The live music and shows, bungee jumping, kart racing, Live Counter-Strike Airsoft, BBQ, climbing wall and a chill-out zone all ensure there are both a range of activities as well as opportunities to play. But of course playing continues to be in the forefront. Tournaments in well-known games titles such as Counter-Strike 1.6, Warcraft III, World in Conflict and many more are contested for coveted money and material prizes. The different contests in areas such as design and programming are traditionally part of this event. Shuttle XPCs ensure the necessary performance and stability in this gigantic network.
It’s no surprise therefore that the organisers have to be prepared for large crowds as they have already achieved a world record on two occasions. Last year at Dreamhack Winter on the first day there were 7,752 concurrent players and 7,788 computers active on the network and they were rewarded with an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. Overall over 10,000 visitors registered over the three event days. Since visitor numbers have been rising from event to event, the numbers will be equally interesting for this event. Will another record be set?
And of course Shuttle hopes you have alot of fun at Dreamhack Winter 2007.
