Verdict & Conclusion: Shuttle never cease to amaze me.
Just when you think ... why did they bother with a microATX budget motherboard? Well, the answers are quite clear. It will not only capture a share of the massive, ever growing budget market, but also show what they are capable of. In recent months, Shuttle has made an exceptional leap and has become leaders in the SPF market ... dominating in every department.
The MN31N performed just like any other N-Force2 (IGP) motherboard with integrated graphics, in fact it performs very well against the MSI K7N2G (IGP). (...)
The onboard peripherals found on the MN31N is enough for any budget user looking to all-in-one solution. Integrated Geforce4 MX graphics with an additional x8 AGP port is a bonus. Onboard 10/100Mb LAN, 6-Channel audio and dual VGA outputs make it a very attractive package.
Final Words: If you're on a budget and want all the latest technologies found on more expensive N-Force2 motherboards, then Shuttle's MN31N is the one for you. Great value for money with performance to match.

+ Nvidia NForce2 Chipset
+ Very good performance
+ Dual Channel DDR interface
+ Integrated Geforce 4 MX graphics
+ 8X AGP and DDR400 support
+ Additional AGP port
+ Onboard audio and LAN
+ Cheap & Cheerful

WCM Österreich: Preistipp - Günstiger trotz guter Features und Qualität

WCM Österreich / Austria
Ausgabe 191, Mai 2003, Seite 60-65

Awarded with WCM's "Best-Value-Award"

Shuttle has all the time a heart for money-savers, who want a good quality at the same time. So, Shuttle decreases the price in other way: the MN31N comes with MicroATX form factor, which allows a lower price. At the same time Shuttle offers partly a similar feature set like the ATX mainboards. Shuttle's board offers for example two VGA ports for multi-monitoring. Of course if also has LAN and even Firewire on the small board. (...) Shuttle also uses the high-quality MCP-T southbridge (...)

Toms Hardware Guide: Beeindruckende Funktionalität und kompaktes Design

Toms Hardware Guide
www.tomshardware.com/... (English)
23. May 2003
(...) With the exception of such extravagant features as a serial ATA controller, this compact board does in fact offer everything the heart desires. (...) Also surprising is that for this MicroATX board, Shuttle uses none other than the top version of the Southbridge, namely the MCP-T. This permits Dolby Digital Sound and the FireWire ports mentioned earlier. The highlights of this board however, are the two D-SUB connections. These allow two monitors to be connected directly, meaning that the dual screen capabilities of the GeForce4-MX-Engine claimed by nView can be used without additional hardware. Although the layout could be criticized, this does not seem reasonable in view of the impressive functionality and the compact design.

Hardwarezone.com: Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars (Very Good)

(...) The motherboard had near excellent layout and yet offered some of the connectivity options associated with full-fledged boards based on this platform. Performance wise, the Shuttle MN31N didn’t let us down either as throughout our benchmark suite, it rivaled all other nForce2-GT platform motherboards. The Shuttle MN31N is also one of the rare motherboards with dual VGA outputs and that is really cool to have without purchasing stand-alone graphics card for dual-head display. (...)

Atomic Australia: HOT-Award with a rating of 9 out of 10

Atomic Magazine Australia
Atomic "Hot" award
Yet again Shuttle has brought us sorely needed functionality in an oft-neglected market segment. The MN31 is fast, stable and feature packed, without being super expensive. It is a kick arse offering, but if it had TV-out support, it could have been the perfect Micro ATX mobo.

AMDZone.com: the most powerful and full featured MATX-board

The Good Stuff
Shuttle has done an excellent job of incorporating the high end features of the nForce 2 chipsets into this board. The integrated video is excellent, and they even provided for dual monitor support in their design thanks to the dual ramdac the chipset supports. The high end MCP-T chipset is used which provides the excellent Xbox equivalent audio with Dolby Digital encoding and decoding support and 6 channel audio. The excellent Nvidia Ethernet connection is also included as well as modern USB 2 and Firewire ports. Shuttle also provides the maximum amount of PCI slots you will see on a micro ATX board.

Conclusion
Shuttle has one of the first micro ATX nForce 2 IGP+MCP-T boards out of the gate. It has high end features for a micro ATX board, and it allows for fans of their SN41G2 to build a system with the same capabilities with a lower price. The nForce 2 chipset gives it top performance amongst Athlon motherboards. Setup was easy, and stability was excellent. (...) As it is the Shuttle MN31N is the most powerful and full featured micro ATX motherboard we have ever tested.

Score: 92

+ nForce 2 IGP+ MCP-T
+ excellent stability
+ Nvida nView dual VGA capable
+ Nvidia Ethernet, 6 channel audio, Firewire, USB 2, ATA 133
+ 3 PCI slots
+ excellent performance

Hexus.net: The Shuttle MN31N is a winner!

The Shuttle MN31N is a winner!
Conclusion: (...) As we've seen with Shuttle's S.F.F PCs, small doesn't necessarily entail a lack of features or performance. (...) Performance when tweaked well, as our benchmarks have shown, is directly comparable to an MSI full-size nForce2 motherboard. (...) Looking at the benchmark scores, you could just about play most modern games at 1024x768x32; that's reasonably impressive for an on-board solution. The dual VGA outputs are a nice touch and give the end-user that little extra display flexibility, all run through the intuitive NVIEW program. (...)

It's safe to say that a well-executed motherboard based on the nForce2 chipset is going to be a decent performer. The Shuttle MN31N takes all the best bits from the nForce2 and bundles them into a micro-ATX form factor. We're still left with the all-important AGP slot and 3 PCI slots, too. It's stable, fast, and the on-board graphics work relatively well if the board is run in dual channel mode. From a pure enthusiast's point of view, a degree of voltage manipulation and a fixed AGP / PCI speed would have been nice, but that's not what the MN31N is about. It's our belief that each product should be viewed in relation to its target market. In that respect, therefore, the Shuttle MN31N is a winner. Recommended. (...)

Highs
+ Stable as the day is long
+ Performance is in line with standard nForce2 motherboards
+ BIOS is surprisingly adjustable
+ Carries an almost-full complement of nForce2 features
+ Integrated graphics are more than reasonable once the MN31N is run in dual channel mode
+ An excellent base for a small, low-cost, and high-performance PC

Übersetzung:
Das Shuttle MN31N ist ein Gewinner!
Fazit: (...)
