    PII Notes:
    • The Absolute Maximum Voltages are the highest voltages the chips can take for a short period of time. Extended use of the processor at or near these voltages will cause permanent damage to the chip. Reliable operation of the chip outside its nominal voltage range is not guaranteed.
    • Typical amperages were measured at normal voltages while running Winstone96 under Windows95.
    • Maximum amperages were measured at max core voltage, at 95° C, and under maximum signal loading conditions.
    • Maximum power dissipation was measured at 100% processor core and 100% L2 cache power.
    • Maximum plate temperature is measured under the heatsink directly above the center of the processor core.
    • Maximum cover temperature is measured at the three known hot spots on the SEC cartridge on the opposite side from the heatsink. See Figure 17 in the Pentium II Processor Thermal Design Guidelines for the locations of the hot spots.
    • The temperature of the ambient air entering the fan on the boxed Pentium II 350, 400, or 450 chip must be below 45°C.
    • The Pentium II Deschutes had a 5% die shrink around the end of August 1998 starting with the 6-5-2 step core chips.

    • The thermal specifications for the SECC2 in both PLGA and OLGA configurations are at nominal core Vcc and nominal Vcc for the L2 cache.
    • Processor power includes power dissipated by the processor core, L2 cache, and GTL+ bus termination, although the max for each does not occur simultaneously.
    • Processors in the SECC2 package do not have an extended thermal plate.
    • Processors using the PLGA core have a maximum case temperature. OLGA packaged chips, however, have a junction temperature that is measured with the on-Die thermal diode. How to measure each is specified in AP-586 Pentium II Processor Thermal Design Guidelines.
    • TDP is listed as 'Max Power Dissipation' for some of the chips in this chart. "Thermal Design Power (TDP) represents the maximum amount of power the thermal solution is required to dissipate. The thermal solution should be designed to dissipate the TDP without exceeding the maximum Tjunction specification. TDP does not represent the power delivery and voltage regulation requirements for the processor."
    • See the Celeron section for why the Pentium III processor numbers have been revised downwards.
    • Tjunction offset is the worst-case difference between the thermal reading from the on-die thermal diode and the hottest location on the processor’s core. Tjunction offset values do not include any thermal diode kit measurement error. Diode kit measurement error must be added to the Tjunction offset value from the table. Intel has characterized the use of the Analog Devices AD1021 diode measurement kit and found its measurement error to be ±1° C
    • The 1.0B FC-PGA SL4WM Coppermine chip has a VID of 1.70V but it should receive 1.76V.

    Celeron Notes:
    • The Absolute Maximum Voltages are the highest voltages the chips can take for a short period of time. Extended use of the processor at or near these voltages will cause permanent damage to the chip. Reliable operation of the chip outside its nominal voltage range is not guaranteed.
    • Typical amperages (which have not yet been specified) were measured at normal voltages while running Winstone96 under Windows95.
    • Maximum amperages were measured at maximum voltages and under maximum signal loading conditions.
    • Maximum power dissipation was measured at nominal core voltage.
    • Maximum power dissipation numbers have been radically lowered for the 533A and higher Coppermine-128 chips.
    • Max ambient temperature for the SECC and PPGA Celeron processor is specified at 45°C (air entering the fan on the boxed Celeron chip must be below this temperature).
    • The Max Power Dissipation is slightly different for the PPGA Celeron because it does not have GTL+ termination resistors.
    • The max wattage, amperage, and some max junction temperatures have been changed for Coppermine-128 Celerons. From the Celeron datasheet:
      "The Thermal Design Power (TDP) CeleronTM processors in production has been redefined. The updated TDP values are based on device characterization and do not reflect any silicon design changes to lower processor power consumption. The TDP values represent the thermal design point required to cool CeleronTM processors in the platform environment while executing thermal validation type software."
    • TDP is listed as 'Max Power Dissipation' for the Coppermine-128 chips in this chart. "Thermal Design Power (TDP) represents the maximum amount of power the thermal solution is required to dissipate. The thermal solution should be designed to dissipate the TDP without exceeding the maximum Tjunction specification. TDP does not represent the power delivery and voltage regulation requirements for the processor." TDP numbers have changed for many Celeron procs. This does not represent a change in stepping; the values have just been updated.
    • Tjunction offset is the worst-case difference between the thermal reading from the on-die thermal diode and the hottest location on the processor’s core. Tjunction offset values do not include any thermal diode kit measurement error. Diode kit measurement error must be added to the Tjunction offset value from the table. Intel has characterized the use of the Analog Devices AD1021 diode measurement kit and found its measurement error to be ±1° C
