Mini-PC workstations with high-performance Intel processors
Conventionally configured desktop PCs are normally sufficient for typical office applications. However, when working with particularly large volumes of complex data, these PCs quickly reach their limits. The symptoms are easy to spot – very long loading times when opening and saving files and delayed responses to user input. There is a solution, though, which is also extremely compact.
First of all, ask yourself this simple question: Do you need a workstation or a conventional desktop PC for the operations you want to perform? The answer, of course, depends primarily on what you do and the programs you work with. Do you use your computer for creative activities, e.g. editing high-resolution raw image data, animations and uncompressed videos? Or does your job entail manipulating 3D objects and performing calculations in CAD/CAM environments? Of key importance here are maximum I/O speed and smooth screen display, even under constant load. Shuttle now offers a variant of its XPC Mini-PC with Intel X58 Express high-performance chipset in three designs. For the first time, Shuttle has opted for server technology in a mini PC to meet the requirements of professional users. These new "tools" use Intel Xeon processors with four cores and huge amounts of cache. Combined with up to 16 GB of memory, modern SSDs and up to two PCI-Express graphics cards, affordable workstations can be created that enable professional applications even where space is limited and when on the move.
