Information on the launch of Windows 10

Microsoft will start deliveries of its new Windows 10 operating system from late July/early August 2015 onwards. The eagerly awaited successor to Windows 8.1 combines a host of new innovations with many proven older features. Particular attention was paid to feedback from users in developing the operating system, with the result that the popular Start menu is returning and, at the same time, it is more flexible than ever.

Users will meet the new browser known as "Edge", in which you can make notes and highlight directly on websites, as well as the intelligent "Cortana" voice search, which acts as a personal assistant and can also remind you of appointments. Microsoft has also worked on the arrangement of many running programs for multi-tasking enthusiasts. There are now virtual desktops to alleviate desktop clutter, which can sort open applications according to tasks or projects, among others.

The Windows Store for practical apps and media content is also open to users in Windows 10. On delivery the new operating system will feature easy-to-use apps for maps, photos, email, calendar, music and videos.

Windows 10 combines the benefits and advantages of Windows 8 and Windows 7 and will be available to most users as Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro.

Windows 10 at Shuttle

We are currently conducting extensive tests on the latest products and will be able to say in the near future which products are ideal for use with Windows 10. The tests are predominantly concerned with driver support. Which driver is already supplied with the operating system and which has to be installed separately - and, above all, where can it be downloaded?

Windows 10 as a free update

Users of complete systems manufactured by Shuttle with pre-installed Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 operating system are entitled to a free upgrade from Microsoft. This can be seen by the Windows flag in the bottom right corner of the toolbar. Microsoft would like to ensure that all components of the system comply with all requirements and therefore will check the compatibility of the PC in advance. The tool needed for this will be loaded via Windows Update. Should the result of the check be positive, users can then log on to obtain the free upgrade within one year from the launch of Windows 10. Should an error message be displayed due to some incompatibility (e.g. because the graphics card is not suitable) it will be impossible to upgrade the system at this time. Microsoft may subsequently offer a solution or alternatively users can remove the unsupported component. Shuttle has no influence on the above procedure.
