Support for the latest Intel Core i7 processors for socket LGA2011 (Ivy Bridge E)
The Shuttle XPC Barebone SX79R5 now also offers compatibility with the latest generation of LGA2011 processors. Although LGA2011 has been on the market for roughly two years now, there is still almost nothing on today's market that matches it for performance and price. These premier-class processors have an especially large cache and can execute more data more quickly by using multiple parallel threads. Like a fountain of youth, a new BIOS version is now giving the XPC Barebone SX79R5 a second spring.
With versions SX79R000.201 (2013-09-24) and later, the 4000-series "Ivy Bridge E" processors with 22 nm technology are supported in addition to the familiar "Sandy Bridge E" processors. This means that almost all LGA2011 models – not only standard Intel Core i7 processors, but also Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition processors – are compatible with the Shuttle XPC Barebone SX79R5.

Important: The new processors cannot be used until a BIOS update has been performed. Start the SX79R5 initially with a "Sandy Bridge E" processor in order to update the BIOS to Version .201.
