It’s still the same great system, with a few extra bells and whistles, engineering modifications, and other enhancements, all designed to make the system run a bit cooler, quieter, and overall more efficient. (...) First off, Shuttle has replaced the old power supply with a brand new SilentX 240 Watt PSU. It not only runs far quieter than the previous, but also quite a bit cooler. (...) The main nForce3 chip is actually passively cooled with a fairly large heatsink. This is a nice change from the latest Intel 865/875 chipsets (...). (...)the new SilentX PSU runs far cooler and still managed to produce less noise. A fantastic upgrade. (...) Conclusion: (...) What really impressed us is the way Shuttle managed to marry quiet operation and cool thermals together, and in of all their systems, it just happened to be an Athlon 64. The 2nd generation SN85G4 really shines with the upgraded ICE Cooling System and new SilentX 240 Watt PSU. The PSU runs far cooler than the previous generation, and the upgraded ICE does a fantastic job at cooling the Athlon 64. The temperature and noise measurements are almost hard to believe. |

After seeing the performance punch the Shuttle delivered at stock speeds, I was excited to see what the Shuttle could do overclocked. (...) Conclusion: Shuttle really has a hit on their hands with the XPC line of SFF PC’s. I now see why Shuttle is the leader in the SFF market. Shuttle has done a great job in the layout of the whole system considering the small amount of room to work with. Not only do you get stylish looks for such a small system, but you also get blazing fast performance to boot. The SN85G4 would make an awesome LAN box. Paired up with a 9800pro the SN85G4 will handle any current and future games very well. The lightweight and performance of the SN85G4 makes this a great choice for a people who frequent LAN’s. The SN85G4 will also make powerful HTPC with the optional remote and 802.11b wireless LAN. Overclocking was very easy and I was surprised at how well the SN85G4 overclocked considering its size and single fan. The performance of the Athlon64 and SN85G4 will surely put a smile on the face of any hardcore gamer, even at stock speeds. | Conclusion: For Gamers who often need take their pc with them on the road, a barebone Pc is an ideal solution. Altough they are very compact and easy to transport, you can outfit them with the latest in 3D card technology and they perform just a strong as a fullsize desktop system. They are also very easy to upgrade and cost only slighty more than a fullsize desktop system, two things that can't be said for Laptop pc's. Even for users that don't need to move their PC around, the Shuttle systems can be very appealing: instead of a bulkly tower under your desk, you can have a beautifully designed and hightech looking box on your desk, saving you some space. The Xpc's have many connections on the frontpanel, which is very user friendly. "For gamers, Shuttle PC's are a much better alternative than a Latop Pc: they are easier to upgrade, cost less and perform just as strong as a fullsize PC. " |
Hardware-Mag www.hardware-mag.de/... 22. Januar 2004 | (...)
