What I need to set in Bios when I'm using SCSI, RAID and IDE HDD devices on AS40GTR?

When use SCSI, Raid and IDE HDD devices, firstly please select "First Boot Device from SCSI" then select "RAID & SCSI Boot Order" options in Bios.

What do I need to take note of when using Raid on AS40GTR?

  • If need to disable RAID Bios function via S/W (Bios), please disable "Onboard RAID Boot Rom" option in Bios. Thus upon system boot up it will skip detection step for RAID device. When entering Windows OS still can detect RAID device, you can install the RAID driver for Hpt 370/372 but RAID function is unusable since it is disabled in Bios.
  • AS40GTR does not support H/W disable of RAID Bios function, if required please purchase AS40GT (without RAID).

What kind of power supply do I need to use?

Standard ATX power supply for AMD K7 and Intel PIII processor based mainboard is inadequate for this type of mainboard. Please use standard P4 power supply for AS40GT/GTR. Power supplies must comply with either the ATX12V or SFX12V design guidelines (see the http://www.formfactors.org/ for details) and supply additional current on the 12V power rail through a new 2x2 connector. Also, additional 3.3V and 5V current is supplied through a separate 1x6 connector, on the ATX12V power supplies (SFX12V power supplies do not have the separate 1x6 connector). All Pentium 4 processor-based systems require the standard 2x10, 20-pin ATX power connector as well as the 2x2, 4-pin 12V connector. You'll find there are 3 power connectors from the P4 power supply : 20-pin std ATX power header, 6-pin Auxiliary ATX power header and 2*2-pin ATX12V power header.

This P4 mainboard uses 20-pin Pentium 4 standard ATX
power header (connects to CN6)
Connect 6-pin Aux VccNcc3 ATX power supply header to JP17
Connect 2*2-pin + 12VPC ATX power supply header to JP16

The ATX power connector is directional and will not go in unless the guides match perfectly making sure that pin#1 is properly positioned. Make sure that the latch of the ATX power connector clicks into place. The power supply must be supplied to ACPI +5V standby power and at least 720mA. Also make sure your P4 power supply have enough power for higher speed processor installed. Please don't connect the power connectors to the mainboard until all other H/W devices has been installed.

Does AS40GT/GTR supports ECC memory?

No, it does not support ECC memory.

Can I use adhesive thermal silicone gel on P4 CPU die?

Adhesive thermal silicone gel such as Shin-Etsu Silicone will set after about 6 hours and form a strong bond between the heatsink and CPU die or other applied surfaces (eg. memory module, chipsets). This type of adhesive thermal compound is strongly not recommended to use on P4 Socket 423/478 CPU die. Since fan heatsink will stick strongly to the P4 CPU die and due to P4 Socket 423/478 ZIF socket structural design, upon removal of the heatsink will force P4 CPU to break apart from the ZIF socket thus damaging both pins on P4 CPU and ZIF socket. Please use non-adhesive thermal compound for P4 CPU only to avoid any damage done to the ZIF socket and P4 CPU.

Installing RAID Drivers

How do I install RAID devices driver during new Windows 2000/XP installation when HDD installed on RAID1or RAID2 as a primary IDE device?

Before installing Windows 2000/XP, please extract the High Point IDE RAID driver from our download page to an empty floppy disk. Follow the following procedure to install RAID driver during the initial OS install setup :

  • 1. Boot up from CD-ROM with Win2000/XP CD
  • 2. The message " Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver..." will appear at the bottom of the initial OS setup screen.
Press <F6> few time in order to install RAID driver prior Windows200/XP installation.
  • 3. When the "Windows 2000/XP Setup" window is generated, press "S" to Specify Additional Devices.
  • 4. Insert the Windows 2000/XP RAID driver floppy disk in drive A: and press <Enter> key.
  • 5 Highlight "Hpt370/372 IDE RAID Controller for WinXP" then press <Enter> key
  • 6. Press "S" to use the driver on floppy
  • 7. If you need to specify any additional devices to be installed, do so at this time.
  • 8. Once all RAID/SCSI devices are specified and respective driver installed continue with Win2000/XP installation.

Note: During the rest of Win2000/XP installation, you will see messages stating that "Hpt370/372 ... not passing Windows Logo testing...", please press yes to continue.
