6th RoboCup German Open 2007 supported by Shuttle

The 6th RoboCup German Open is taking place again this year, from the 17th until the 21st of April, providing wheeled, two-legged, four-legged and computer-simulated robots the opportunity to strut their stuff. 150 teams from 13 nations will compete against one another in eight leagues, and Shuttle will also be back again in force, supporting the action and providing the teams and organisers with high performance XPCs and TFTs.

The RoboCup German Open is a great chance for the teams to test out their technology and hone their skills before the RoboCup World Championship, staged in Bremen last year, and taking place in Atlanta this year.

The tournament is divided into “Senior” and “Junior” leagues. The “Senior” league will see 54 research teams from universities and research institutes coming together to compete against each other, while, loosely based around the motto “Learning with Robots”, the “Junior” league school pupils will be sending their robots into competition together.

None of the robots competing in the tournament are remote-controlled, but are equipped with cameras and distance sensors allowing them to act independently, and can even use WLAN to coordinate their moves when playing in a team.

The RoboCup is an international initiative dedicated to the advancement of research into artificial intelligence and autonomously mobile robots. Check out the “Robot Football” to see the achievements of the different disciplines in one place.
