Tech Gear: "Editor's Choice"

"So what are the advantages of turning a PC into a media centre anyway?" The editors of the British web site Tech-Gear.org were about to find the answer to this question taking a closer look at the complete Shuttle XPC G5 8300M. And it managed to convince the editors. This SFF PC dedicated to media centre users grabbed two awards at once - Tech Gear's "Editor's Choice" award and "Feature Packed Product" award.

"Just look at it! It's tiny isn't it? The shape and size of the Shuttle XPC is very impressive. It's sleek looking and very self confined," describe the editors of the British web site Tech-Gear of the G5chassis made of black aluminium with stealthed drive doors and integrated VFD media display: "During use you will find the front of the XPC details a lot of cool and colourfully lit symbols which change depending on the current use of the system."

Conclusion: "If you are looking for a media centre PC you should really consider the solutions available from Shuttle since their XPC systems are no doubt not only popular but ass kicking when it comes to design and performance."

Furthermore, the Shuttle XPC G5 8300M shows up with "many connectivity options and it's a good thing too since you would be expecting to connect up various different audio and video devices." The media centre PC is equipped with for example an ATI X550 graphics card with both VGA and DVI-out, TV tuner card, Intel 915G chipset, 6-in-1 card reader, Gigabit-LAN, remote control and a small but beefy 250 Watt power supply: "This is also the same board which powers any 3D visual elements you'll encounter later with the XPC such as games. On the side you will notice the small 250 watt power supply that’s fitted to the framework of the XPC. The processor is cooled via a thick heatsink which is followed by four heat spreader pipes connected to a fan grill."To sum it up, "the built-in hardware makes this XPC a perfect companion to the home living room," according to Tech Gear.

Performance was dubbed "very good" " considering the amount of applications," the editors ran. For most individual requirements, "Shuttle allow you to customize your XPC," explain the editors. That said, "you can have a small PC that packs a super punch."
